Terms of Use
Plain terms for a plain deal: you use the app, your writing stays yours, and we make no promises we can't keep. Last updated July 18, 2026.
Acceptance
By downloading or using the Locus app or this website, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use them.
License
Locus is licensed to you, not sold — a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the app on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by the App Store terms. Locus is currently free while in development. If obtained through the Mac App Store, Apple's standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement also applies; where these terms are more restrictive of us or more protective of you, these terms control.
Your content
Everything you create in Locus is yours — entirely. We claim no rights over your notes, and because the app transmits nothing, we never possess a copy to claim rights over. You are responsible for your own backups; Locus writes local daily backups and version snapshots, and works with standard tools like Time Machine, but the only durable backup strategy is one you verify yourself.
Acceptable use
Don't reverse-engineer the app except as permitted by law, don't redistribute it as your own, and don't use it to break the law. That's the list.
Development software
Locus is in active development. Features may change, be added, or be removed between versions. We work hard to protect your data through backups and version history, but development software can have bugs — see the warranty section below and keep backups.
No warranty; limitation of liability
Locus and this website are provided “as is”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the developer shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or exemplary damages — including loss of data or profits — arising from your use of the app or website, even if advised of the possibility. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid for the app in the twelve months preceding the claim (currently: nothing). Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
Termination
You may stop using Locus at any time — your data is on your disk and exportable regardless. This license terminates automatically if you breach these terms.
Changes
We may update these terms; material changes will be reflected by the date above. Continued use after changes means acceptance.
