Privacy Policy
The short version: the Locus app collects nothing, transmits nothing, and has no way to do either. Last updated July 18, 2026.
The Locus app
Locus does not collect, transmit, sell, or share any data. The app contains no networking code, no account system, no analytics, no crash reporting, and no advertising or tracking frameworks. Under Apple's App Privacy definitions, the label is simply: Data Not Collected.
Everything you write is stored locally on your Mac, as a human-readable file in your user Application Support folder, along with any images you add, automatic backups, and per-page version history. This data never leaves your machine unless you export or copy it yourself. We could not read your notes if we wanted to — there is no channel through which they could reach us.
App Lockuses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework (Touch ID, Apple Watch, or your Mac login password). Biometric information is handled entirely by macOS and Apple's Secure Enclave; Locus never sees, stores, or transmits it — the system only tells the app whether authentication succeeded.
Because no data is collected, there is nothing for us to retain, nothing to delete on request, and nothing to breach. Deleting the app and its Application Support folder removes everything.
This website
locusnotes.app is a static website. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics or tracking scripts, and includes no third-party embeds. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) may process standard technical logs — IP address, user agent, requested page — to serve and secure the site, as described in Cloudflare's privacy policy. We do not access, combine, or analyze such logs to identify visitors.
Children
Locus does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If Locus ever gains a feature that involves any data leaving your machine, this policy will be updated before that feature ships, with the date above revised. The current architecture makes such collection impossible, and we consider that a feature.
